Fleetwood Mac - Coming your way - Live 1969 Danny Kirwan / Peter Green guitar duel
At the request of Rob van Unnik who graced us with so many unique Peter Green uploads I uploaded "Albatross" from the Fleetwood Mac concert at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam (midnight concert on 28 February 1969, so actually it already was 1 March). Here's another song from this concert: "Coming your way", a Danny Kirwan song.
Although Danny's widely featured on this one Peter Green is also doing a lot of guitar work. As usual Jeremy Spencer doesn't seem to be on the stage when he's not the featured band member. The audio on this song is not as good as on the rest of the concert. The radio sound engineers were clearly not aware of what was happening on on the stage and they seemed to be s...

After the success of my video of "The Stumble" uploaded in 2010 here is the second track of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers featuring Peter Green, "Double trouble". The story in 2010 was like this: John Mayall used to record his concerts on a simple reel-to-reel recorder. Surprisingly little material with Peter Green on guitar has emerged from the Mayall vaults, but here's a version of Otis Rush' "...

Duke Robillard shows how to play the double stops in Freddie King's "The Stumble", that many guitar players (including myself) seem to "stumble" over. Duke plays 'm with a flatpick and uses one finger to pick the high E-string, but Freddie used finger picks, so he could pluck the two strings easier. I'm still working on it, but I think a combination of the two works best for me: I play the song...

John Mayall used to record his concerts on a simple reel-to-reel recorder. Surprisingly little material with Peter Green on guitar has emerged, but here's a lengthy version of Freddie King's "The Stumble", incidentally with future Fleetwood Mac rhythm section comprising John McVie and Mick Fleetwood. So this must have been early 1967 as Fleetwood was only in the Bluesbreakers for a couple of we...

Yes this must have been early 1967 because Fleetwood Mac played our blues club on 11 October 1967. The line up was Fleetwood, McVie, Green and Spencer, which was interesting as Jeremy Spencer had played the club a few months earlier with his previous band and we had no idea he had joined the Mac. I asked John McVie how things were going and he said they had just finished recording their first album and they were hoping it would do OK as money was tight. I have since discovered that he was reluctant to leave John Mayall at first because John paid all band members a regular wage. BTW I think the first album did a bit better than "OK!"

Mayall was the stepping stone for blues musicians, half of Fleetwood mac went thru his band. Plus Taylor played for the stones. Saw Mayall with green at the whiskey often when I was a kid.

I can't believe how long he sustains the power of this solo. I saw Freddie King in his prime and though he was wonderful, he couldn't have gone on with layer after layer of actual solo ascending in intensity like Green here. Broomfield had that capacity as well. A great tape. And remembering John Mayoll tonight. Beano changed my life.

Perter Green was a great guitar player who owns a lot of his legend to Danny Kirwan. The amazing playing of Danny Kirwan remains annonimous or underrated, but most of the best guitar work on Fleetwood Mac is that of Kirwan masterful playing

You are wrong .Danny was a great guitarist in his own right. But Peter was legendary before Danny ever played a note with Fleetwood Mac.Peter ttold Danny what he wanted him to play in all of Peters songs.Listen to Peter with JohnMayall'sBluesbreakers And you'll hear whatI'm talking about .Nobody made zpeter a legend except Peter himself

@@georgeburnham8984 Since it seems that you are being treated with a certain affection, I am not going to argue with you about whether PG played better or worse than DK. I will only tell you that Danny and Peter played together for many years, and that in Fleetwood Mac they were both two sides of the same coin. Their duets were true wonders of the electric guitar that created a school and that have rarely been heard at that level of excellence.

Outstanding playing. ... As for the recording, a person named Tom Hussen living over here in the UK at that time, (as a young blues enthusiast) he would attend the John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers gigs at various London pubs, recording several on his small portable tape recorder. Some years afterwards, he offered CD copies of his tapes to fellow blues enthusiasts before eventually being able to have them made fully 'legit' via liaision with John Mayall himself. Seem to recall that John Mayall was then able to arrange high-end studio editing to 'clean them up' as best as could be done 'quality-wise', yet still retaining that vital raw 'essence' of a live late 60's pub gig. ... Concerning Tom Hussen himself, he ended up playing bass in a Dutch band called 'John the Revelator' who would often cover Peter Green's work.
